Open-air site 11 between the halls 8, 9 and 11
The special ‘Smart Powered Building’ exhibition – ‘your building in the smart grid’ presents technologies for intelligent and sustainable energy management in networked buildings. Market-ready systems for the product areas of electro-technology, home and building automation demonstrate clearly how buildings function as energy generators, storage units and consumers in the smart grid.
The core of the special exhibition is the architecture of a mobile container. Examples show how combinations of different systems of power generation such as photovoltaics or wind energy with energy storage facilities such as batteries, heat /cold storage systems can contribute to a more independent supply of energy to the building. Connection to the intelligent power network shows how excess power can be fed in and energy flows controlled optimally by energy management systems. A kind control room simulation is used to show the professional trade audience the potential benefits of intelligent networking in five typical commercial properties – sports centre, production company, supermarket, office building and hotel – based on weather data from Frankfurt. The trade visitor can select from a range of energy generators, storage systems and consumers and then get the energy consumption and generation data according to the parameters selected over a period of a month or a year.
The central topics include the intelligent use of limited resources, the use of energy storage systems and the decentralisation of power supply. The question as to what energy management will look like in the future will be answered here.

The ‘E-House’ of the ZVEH Central Association of German Electrotechnical and Information Technology Trades (Zentralverband der Deutschen Elektro- und Informationstechnischen Handwerke) takes up this thread and shows what form energy management can take for the end user: the ‘Energy-saving power station’ provides a realistic and politically poignant vision of how the ‘turnaround’ in energy works in practice and how today it is possible to combine energy efficiency with an increase in comfort and security. What is more, the ability to generate energy yourself reduces dependence on the energy suppliers.
