The KNX Training Facility, based at the ABB Energy Centre at City College in Plymouth, has won the award for Contribution to Training at the recent BCIA Awards 2013.
Held at St John’s Hotel, Solihull, UK, on 9 May, and sponsored, among others by KNX UK, the
awards focus on key areas of manufacture and supply, including innovation and achievement, energy saving, engineering excellence, customer care and employee motivation.
The awards were established to recognise and reward excellence in building controls industry. Presented in association with the BCIA (Building Controls Industry Association) the awards were sponsored by some of the leading brands in the building controls sector, including Centraline by Honeywell, Western Automation, Johnson Controls, Modern Building Services, Priva Building Intelligence, B&ES, Trend Control Systems, Siemens Building Technologies, KNX UK, Parts Center & Reflex Recruitment.
On the night, six companies and three individuals were awarded. Among these, the Contribution to Training award went to The KNX Training Facility based at the ABB Energy Centre at City College in Plymouth.
The college has 17,000 students and offers training from apprenticeships to degrees. The ABB Energy Centre offers training on drives, motors and water metering and filtering equipment. Recently, training in the KNX standard was added to this offering, and the college has now been certified as only one of three UK independent training centres by the KNX Association in Brussels. Dedicated KNX training desks are being installed and courses offered to allow apprentices, electricians and others to become qualified to program and install KNX.
