Light + Building 2022: Countdown is running

“Breaking new ground” – this is the motto for the reunion at Light + Building from 13 to 18 March 2022. The new concept is in place and preparations are in full swing. In future, face-to-face meetings on the exhibition grounds will be possible, but also digital encounters.

“In five months’ time, the lighting and building service technology sector will experience the new start of the trade fair business,” says a delighted Wolfgang Marzin, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Messe Frankfurt GmbH. Many exhibitors have confirmed their booth spaces. His interim assessment shows: “The Building side on the West Grounds looks very good. In the east area we will see a newly designed lighting area. It is based on a strong presence of European and especially Italian exhibitors. On 18 hall levels, the companies will show a range of products and services on the subjects of lighting and building service technology that is unique in terms of breadth and depth, so that Light + Building 2022 will once again be the world’s leading performance and innovation show for the industry, as usual.” A detailed overview of all registered exhibitors will be provided by the Light + Building Contactor from the first week of November.

The new concept of the leading international meeting place for lighting and building service technology provides for the industry to come together both on site in Frankfurt am Main and digitally. At the Exhibition Centre from 13 to 18 March 2022, exhibitors will present a product spectrum for integrated building planning that is unique in terms of breadth and depth. All electricity-carrying trades are united here: from lighting and luminaire design, connected security and building automation to electrical installation systems, intelligent energy management and the providers of e-charging infrastructure.

New perspectives are opening up for exhibitors and visitors in the digital space: for the first time, the industry meeting place is presenting the digital platform “Light + Building Digital Extension” in addition to and extending the physical event from 13 to 25 March 2022. This will increase reach and flexibility – both for exhibiting companies and visitors. In the future, participation will be possible across borders and continents and independent of travel restrictions: the exchange of information on electrical trades, architecture, planning and building operation can take place across all trades.

Top themes: Digitalisation & Sustainability

In the last year and a half, the digitalisation of daily life has gained even more momentum. Likewise, the achievement of climate targets and the preservation of our environment are playing an ever greater role. Accordingly, they are the two developments that run through the top themes of Light + Building as unifying elements. These are: “Green Deal & Sustainability”, “Electrification & Digitalisation” and “Light & Design”.

The top theme “Green Deal & Sustainability” focuses on systems that contribute to sustainably increasing the energy efficiency of buildings and cities. The basis for this is the optimal use of built-up areas, a broad collection and evaluation of data and resource cycles that are as closed as possible. This includes ecological and recycled building materials, the use of renewable energies and automated building service technology. Climate targets can thus be more easily controlled and achieved.

“Electrification & Digitalisation” focuses on efficient planning, optimal energy use and comfort in buildings. If the systems of the various trades work interoperably and are coupled with artificial intelligence, demand-oriented control of a property is permanently possible. Unnecessary energy consumption is thus a thing of the past. At the same time, building safety and security increase and predictive maintenance improves the use of resources.

The third top theme “Light & Design” focuses on light. Both the quality and the design of lighting play an important role in room and building planning. The topic of sustainability is evident in the use of natural materials and colours as well as the recycling of resources. In addition, light as part of the building architecture has an influence on well-being, performance and safety. In the UVC range, the disinfection of air and surfaces is possible.

West Grounds: Centre for Integrated Building Technology

Digitalisation, connectivity and artificial intelligence are changing building service technology. Holistic concepts are needed to ensure that buildings also meet future requirements. Visitors to Light + Building can find out what these can look like from the exhibitors on the West Ground. This is where the Centre for Integrated Building Technology is located. The entire spectrum of home and building automation, building system solutions, electrical installations as well as network and building system technology will be presented by exhibitors in Halls 9, 11 and 12. The BMWi – Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy – promotional area offers a special place to young, innovative companies from the electrical engineering sector. They will present their ideas and solutions in Hall 9.0.

In thematic proximity to home and building automation and electrical engineering, a meeting place for knowledge transfer and networking is planned. Whether it’s Building Information Modeling (BIM), Power for Mobility or other industry-relevant topics, participants can follow the programme both on-site and digitally.

Intersec Building and Intersec Forum

An integral part of the Smart Home and Smart Building is connected security. The integration of various security systems such as video surveillance or access control, their connecting and integration into technical building automation are essential aspects for future developments. As a result, Light + Building bundles the range of products and services on this subject with Intersec Building in Hall 8.0, where the topics of video technology and access control are equally present as data or fire protection. In the immediate vicinity, the Intersec Forum from 14 to 18 March 2022 will enrich the product range with an exciting congference programme. The specialist conference for connected security technology is the cross-sector expert meeting and networking event for those who plan, operate and develop building technology systems.

East Grounds: Source of inspiration for lighting design and technology

The East Ground of Light + Building is all about light. Here, exhibitors present the latest design trends and innovative lighting technology. The unique range includes design luminaires in all styles, technical luminaires and lighting components, outdoor and street lighting as well as emergency and safety lighting. A BMWi promotion area for young companies is available in the Decorative Luminaires product area.

Whether it’s a house, a building or a city: the aim is to use recyclable materials for longer, conserve resources, increase efficiency and implement sustainable technology. Luminaires that can be optimally configured for the application and networked with each other contribute to this. However, lighting also has an impact on health, well-being and performance. As a result, Human Centric Lighting (HCL) concepts and cleaning with light are gaining in importance.

For Light + Building, the designer team of the bora.herke.palmisano style agency went on a discovery tour. The result are three trend themes that show what will determine lighting and luminaire design in 2022+23. Their results are part of the Design Plaza in Forum 0 on the East Ground. The hot spot for inspiration, trends and networking offers a diverse range of products on the subject of design, providing inspiration both on site and digitally.
