Yasmin Hashmi previews the KNX event of the year – the Light + Building trade fair in Frankfurt that takes place 3 to 8 March 2024.
If you are interested in all things KNX, the Light + Building show is the place to be. The world’s leading trade fair for lighting and building services technology takes place every two years at the Messe in Frankfurt, Germany, and always has a massive KNX presence.
Light + Building 2024 takes place 3 to 8 March 2024. Its focus will be on lighting trends in all their facets, the electrification and digitalisation of home and building service technology and connected security technology. The trade fair comprises ten very large halls, some of which have multiple levels, and will play host to over 2000 exhibitors.
Home and building automation will be concentrated in Halls 9, 11 and 12, the latter being where KNX Association will have its main stand. Not only will KNX feature heavily on the KNX stand B91 in Hall 12.0, but also on super-sized stands from companies such as ABB, Schneider Electric, Gira, Siemens, Jung, Theben, MDT and the ZVEH (Central association of German electricians). Indeed put ‘KNX’ into the L+B exhibitors page search field, and you will get over 114 different companies/organisations returned!
The main KNX stand will showcase the landscape of the KNX ecosystem, including energy management applications, KNX IoT devices, KNX secure products, and more, including the KNX breakthrough solution to the Cyber Resilient Act. In addition to dedicated areas for ETS, KNX Startup Incubator, daily presentations, competitions and networking, the stand will feature display panels from 25 members demonstrating a broad range of KNX technology.
The latest on ETS6
The KNX stand will include an area where you can get hands-on with the latest ETS features, including the integration of KNX IoT devices and the latest Smart Linking capabilities. You will also be able to see how building technology has evolved in ETS6.2 and get a preview of upcoming features in ETS6.3.
KNX Professionals
In addition to the main KNX stand, there will also be the opportunity to meet other KNX experts at the dedicated KNX Professionals stand C92 in Hall 11.1. Here you will be able to see practical examples of KNX Secure solutions, and have the chance to discuss general integration issues.
KNX NextGen and KNX IoT startups
For those setting out on their KNX journey, KNX Association will have a dedicated area on the main stand for students looking to get involved in KNX technology, including a programme of exclusive training opportunities. And for innovative companies aiming to revolutionise the home and building automation market by developing KNX IoT-based solutions, there will be an area dedicated to the KNX startup incubator programme, where interested parties can find out more about the different development paths on offer.
Competitions
Visitors to the KNX stand will have the opportunity to get ETS6 Professional at a special price, and to win prizes by playing the Kahoot game. There is also the chance to win an ETS6 Professional license by taking part in the KNX Championship – a competition where participants have to set up an installation based on KNX Virtual within a limited timeframe. Those willing to accept the challenge are encouraged to register here.
Information sessions
KNX Association also plans to run various information sessions on its main topics, including how KNX contributes to sustainability. There will be daily presentations at the KNX booth, plus the following presentations by KNX Association CTO/CFO, Joost Demarest, at the Exhibitor Stage or Technology Forum (please check knxatLB.knx.org for updates):

Title: Sustainable by Design – Future-proof Solutions with KNX.
Venue: Messe Frankfurt Exhibitor Stage in Hall 11.0 FOY01.
Abstract: the world is slowly but surely moving away from the use of fossil fuels for more renewable energy. This presentation will show why the approach often suggested by competing technologies is not always the right choice for the move away from fossil fuels, as the resulting integration of different application domains in homes and buildings will dramatically increase their complexity. Such complex homes and buildings are at best designed, configured, managed and maintained by competent professionals, for which KNX technology has proven to have the best building blocks.
Date/time: 4 March at 13:50-14:10.
Language: German.
Title: KNX – why is it the right technology for the energy transition?
Venue: Technology Forum Hall 12 Level 1, D86.
