The second edition of the book follows 15 years after the first one (“Domotica con KNX”, 2008). Today the contents are considerably different: the focus shifts from understanding the technology to how to use building automation to meet a design and implementation challenge that has significantly changed over the years.
Faced with the need for decarbonisation, reduction in the consumption of key resources – such as water and energy – or climate neutrality, it has been recognised that intelligent technologies are an essential element in achieving objectives that are at the same time ambitious and complex.
The guiding principle therefore becomes in realising buildings that are able to react dynamically to changing environmental conditions, both internal and external, and to people’s needs.
In addition to that, global objectives can only be achieved if individual behaviour is modified in a virtuous sense; and here building automation plays a new – but crucial – role in making end users aware of the consumption and the environmental footprint generated by their actions.
All this has to be realised while ensuring the best indoor environment quality, safeguarding comfort, well-being and health for those who spend most of their time in buildings.
