The area / line coupler from JUNG is the central element for a secure KNX system. The device offers flexibility and control in the management of KNX lines or segments in the KNX Smart Building.
For completely secure communication, all devices in a system must use KNX Data Secure. However, not all components may be able to communicate with KNX Data Secure. Another use case can occur if an existing KNX system is to be expanded with KNX Secure products. In both cases, it is possible to structure the system in such a way that the KNX Data Secure-capable devices and the products without KNX Secure are arranged in separate segments. This separation applies to individual group addresses. The JUNG KNX area / line coupler connects these two areas if KNX Secure is activated in the ETS. This function translates the telegrams with group addresses in both directions between secure and non-secure transmission. The difference is not recognisable for the individual sensors or actuators.
Application as area / line coupler
As an area coupler, the product is used to connect a main line with an area line, optionally with or without a filter function. In addition, the new area / line coupler can act as an amplifier and enables the processing and repetition of telegrams on a line without a filter function. With ETS6, it is now also possible to connect segments. In contrast to the line amplifier, the segment coupler can provide filter tables. It supports the division of a line into up to four independent line segments with a max. of 255 participants. As a line coupler, the product is used to connect a line to a main line, whereby this function can be used either with or without a filter table. The coupler is logically assigned to the subordinate line. The KNX area / line coupler can be updated via the JUNG KNX Service app.
