Women’s Voices Matter: Christina Geier on shaping a more inclusive future

In this interview with Katie Rose, Christina Geier, Product Marketing Manager at Busch-Jaeger/ABB, reflects on creating an environment where women are seen and heard.

KNXtoday: Briefly, tell us your background and how you came to be in your current role with Busch Jaeger/ABB.

CG: I started my journey with Busch-Jaeger/ABB in 2013 via an internship during my studies, after which I became a student assistant. Following a semester in Australia during my bachelor’s degree, I pursued a dual master’s degree with ABB. I initially worked in marketing communication and then spent four years in sales. Currently, I lead the Product Marketing Management department for Building Home Automation Systems (BHAS) in Germany, a role that combines my passion for innovation and customer-focused solutions.

KNXtoday: Why, how, and when did you come to be involved with KNX and Women in KNX?

CG: Whilst working in sales, I worked closely with customers on KNX projects, which inspired me to develop my knowledge and complete the KNX certification. When I met Katja Schuster, Founder of Women in KNX, I immediately knew I wanted to be part of the initiative, as it aligns perfectly with my values and my desire to support women in technology and automation.

KNXtoday: Tell us about the role you played at the initiation of Women in KNX at Light + Building 2024.

CG: It was an honour to be part of the Women in KNX launch event alongside three other amazing women at Light + Building 2024. Together, we shared our perspectives and experiences to inspire others and highlight the importance of diversity in the KNX community. This event was a significant step towards promoting equality and inclusion in our industry.

KNXtoday: As a product marketing manager for BHAS, what role do you feel branding plays in helping to encourage and represent women in tech?

CG: Branding plays a crucial role in shaping perceptions and challenging stereotypes in the tech industry. By showcasing diverse role models, including women in leadership and technical roles, we can inspire the next generation. Strong branding also communicates a company’s commitment to inclusion, encouraging women to see themselves as part of the innovation journey. It’s about creating a culture where diversity is celebrated and visibly integrated into everything we do.

KNXtoday: How are Busch-Jaeger working to create equal opportunities for women in training and recruitment?

CG: Busch-Jaeger actively promotes equal opportunities by fostering a culture of inclusion, from targeted recruitment campaigns to comprehensive training programmes. We encourage women to join technical and leadership roles by offering mentoring, flexible work arrangements, and support for career development. By addressing unconscious biases and highlighting the success of women in our company, we create an environment where everyone can thrive, regardless of gender.

KNXtoday: Tell us about your recent experience at Belektro 2024.

CG: Trade fairs such as Belektro are always an incredible platform for connecting with customers and partners. This year’s event was particularly special, celebrating 100 years of miniature circuit breakers and 10 years of Busch-free@home®, milestones which underline our legacy of innovation. Being part of the Women in KNX panel was a highlight, as it fostered meaningful discussions and showcased the importance of diversity in the KNX ecosystem.

KNXtoday: Based on your experience, what changes would you like to see for women in the industry?

CG: I hope more women find the courage to enter the industry and feel welcomed and valued when they do. It’s essential to create an environment where women are not only included but empowered to contribute and lead. Even if you’re the only woman in the room, your voice matters. I would like to see more programmes supporting and increasing the visibility of women in tech.
