Connected security in buildings: 80 thought leaders show the way between feasibility and data security at Intersec Forum
Visions become reality: some 80 experts from the fields of building security, information technology and security technology will discuss the opportunities and challenges of inter-connected security technology at the 3rd Intersec Forum in Frankfurt am Main – and, for the first time, also consider specific solutions for secure connectivity in tomorrow’s buildings. The five-day conference begins on Monday, 19 March 2018, and is being held in Hall 9.1 within the framework of Light + Building, the world’s leading trade fair for lighting and building services technology. The speakers come from Germany, France, United Kingdom, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Israel and the USA.
VIPs to open Intersec Forum
Opening the event on Monday (19 March, 10.00 hrs), the President of the German Federal Office for Information Security (Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik – BSI), Arne Schönbohm, will discuss the chances and challenges of modern security technology with prominent representatives of the sector including Dr Roland Busch, CTO and Member of the Board of Management of Siemens AG, Michael Ziesemer, President of the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association (Zentralverband Elektrotechnik- und Elektronikindustrie e.V. – ZVEI), Ingolf Jakobi, CEO of the German Central Association of Electrical and Information Technology Contractors (Zentralverband der Deutschen Elektro- und Informations-technischen Handwerke – ZVEH), Johannes Hauck, Director Corporate Business Environment, Hager, and Dr Klaus Mittelbach, Chairman of the ZVEI Board of Management.
Cyber experts and surveillance specialists on connectivity
Subsequently, the afternoon programme will focus on IT and cyber security, as well as video surveillance and access control: Michael Boos, Departmental Head at BSI, Philipp Rothmann, Senior Manager at dhpg IT-Services, and Dr Nicolas Krämer, Chief Executive, Lukaskrankenhaus hospital, Neuss, will show how to effectively counteract the risks for interconnected security technology in buildings from IT / cyber criminals. Jochen Sauer, Business Development Manager, Axis Communications, Markus Wierny, Chairman of the Technical Services Committee of ONVIF, the open-industry standard for network surveillance products, Frank Horst, Head of the Security and Inventory Differences Department of EHI Retail Institute, and Michael Dormann, Technical Executive at the Hesse Office of Criminal Investigation (Hessisches Landeskriminalamt), will discuss the efficiency and connectivity of different standards in the field of video surveillance and access control.
Challenges for contractors, planners, plant engineers and lawyers
On Tuesday morning, the focus shifts to emergency lighting and voice alarms in connection with fire-alarm technology: first-up are Stephan Kreutzer, CEO, Atral-Secal, Ulrich Höfer, Head of Dynamic Lighting Systems, Inotec, Heiko Schwichtenberg, Fire Alarm Systems Product Manager, Bosch Sicherheitssysteme, Esther Hild and Uwe Spatzier, both ZVEI.
They are followed by Joost Demarest, CTO, KNX Association, Dr Hilko Hoffmann, Head of the Graphic Group of Intelligent Simulated Reality of the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (Deutsches Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz – DFKI), Jan Meiswinkel, CEO, Advancis Software, and Markus Groben, CEO, Groben Ingenieure, who will discuss the status of current standards for bus systems in digital building and their interoperability.
In the planners and contractors sector dialogue, experts will show the way to ‘secure’ investments, from the planning stage, via tendering, to realisation: Günther Mertz, Managing Director, German Association of the Building Services and Technical Installation Industry (Bundes-verband Technische Gebäudeausstattung e.V. – BTGA) , Ralph Ammelung, planner for electrical information and security technology at K. Dörflinger Gesellschaft für Elektroplanung, Kai Hardt, Sales Manager, NTA Systemhaus, Michael Wolff, branch manager at building-services equipment supplier GA-tech, and Tobias Dittmar, CEO, BTGA, will look at the challenges to be met at the interface of security technology and building-services equipment from the point of view of planners, contractors, plant engineers and lawyers.
New solutions for security technology in and beyond the cloud
The third day of the conference opens with the spotlight on security applications for building automation on the basis of the wide-spread KNX standards for fieldbus technology. Thus, Peter Borowski, Chairman of the German Smart Home Initiative, Detective Chief Superintendent Klaus Kisters of North Rhine-Westphalia Criminal Investigation Department, André Hänel, KNX System and Tool Manager, and Christian Stahn, KNX Marketing, will look at the chances and risks for installations and systems in existing and new buildings and the internet of things (IoT). After the lunch break, Markus Groben, Franz Madl, pbb Planung und Projektsteuerung, Mathias Huth, Robert Bosch and Thomas Kirmayr Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics (IBP) will talk about the possibilities and need for integrating BIM software (Building Information Modelling) in increasingly complex building-technology networks in the planning and construction phases.
New solutions for smart-building networks are the theme of speakers in the Start-ups and Young Enterprises cluster. Thus, Marcellus Schmidt, CEO of SDT Solutions will discuss a new process linking authentication and encryption, which permits secure remote control of digital infrastructures. Christian Ostrochowski, Product Manager, frogblue, will present a system that communicates via the BLE protocol (Bluetooth Low Energy), a version of the Bluetooth communication standard optimised for use in buildings. In distinction to many other systems on the market, this permits smartphone control without the need for the building-automation systems to be connected to the internet. In combination with encrypted data transfer, this is a persuasive argument for customers sensitive to the demands of data protection and data security. Other subjects include the digitalisation of key management in a lecture by Karsten Nölling, CEO, KIWI.KI, and opportunities for using an interoperable IoT platform for buildings and agile development processes, by Mathias Runge of IoT connctd.
Protected buildings and infrastructure in the IoT age
Thursday (22 March) begins with a look from the perspective of the building operator and developer at burglary protection and building operation. British publisher Peter Mawson (Hand Media) and Matthias Wolff of Lupus Electronics will take a holistic look at technical convergence before Dietmar Duerr, Business Development Manager Building Technology, Dehn + Söhne, Guido Frohn, Telefonbau Arthur Schwabe, and Udo Weinand, Fraunhofer Institute for Technological Trend Analysis (INT) discuss alarm and surveillance innovations. Data security and the role of the internet of things in the future is the theme to be tackled by Yariv Fishman of Israel’s IoT expert Check Point Software Technologies, Ingo Schönberg, CEO PPC Power Plus Communication, Dr Andreas Wetzel, Sauter Cumulus, Klaus Wächter, Standardisation Manager, Siemens, and Steffen Zimmermann, VDMA Informatics Department.
Emergency planning for buildings and infrastructures against the background of changing security requirements and landscapes is the subject to be debated by Sean A. Ahrens, Leader Security Market Group with US management consultants, Affiliated Engineers Inc., Marko Laco, CEO of security company yIT Odjel from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Tobias Töpfer, CEO of building pro electrical planning company, and Lutz Diwell, Chairman of the Board of ‘Zukunftsforum Öffentliche Sicherheit’ (tomorrow’s public security forum). Michael Hallstein, Head of the Police Operations Department, Frankfurt am Main Police, and Holger Hübner of ICS Festival Service, will discuss which technological mega-trends are set to define security in public areas.
The future of digital locking and access control systems
The fifth day (23 March) revolves around the subject of smart access, the future of which will be examined by luminaries from the field of applied research and innovation pioneers. Under the chairmanship of Professor Kai-Dietrich Wolf, the Institute for Security Systems – ISS – of the University of Wuppertal, they will discuss innovations for digital and IoT applications for electronic access control and modern locking systems with respect to cybersecurity and privacy. The speakers include Ho Chang, CEO of Nuremberg-based software specialists for biometric face recognition, BioID, Dr Christian Zenger, CEO of Physec, a supplier of cryptography-based security products, Tibor Jager, Professor of Computer Science, IT Security Faculty of the Universität Paderborn, Antoine Huber, Director IoT for Building – Mobile Services & IoT with international digital security supplier Gemalto France, Karsten Nölling, Chairman of the Board of Management of digital locking system developer KIWI.KI GmbH, Olivier Briand, Business Development Director of NXP Semiconductors France, and Jürgen Schneider, executive with Dutch access control and electrical-engineering company nedap.
