Siemens Launches New KNX Actuator Offering Enhanced Cost and Energy for DALI Lighting Control

• Optimal lighting for high comfort thanks to individually adjustable dimming
• Personalized control with function “tunable white” for Human Centric Lighting (HCL)
• Easy installation, low maintenance expenses and energy efficient switching and dimming

Siemens Smart Infrastructure is launching its new KNX switch and dim actuator N 525D11, 2x DALI Broadcast. The rail-mounted device for installation in distribution boards has two Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI) outputs. Thanks to a control performance of up to 20 DALI electrical ballasts (ECG) per DALI output, the new actuator offers energy efficiency and low commissioning costs during broadcast mode where all connected ECG, for example lamps, are controlled simultaneously. The new device has a wide range of functions to increase comfort for room users, such as color temperature control and configurable dimming curves. In addition, the actuator is able to store light scenes, send status or error messages, and provide switching cycles as well as an operating hour counter. The new device offers the best conditions for optimum lighting ratios in the room. In combination with presence detectors, which control brightness fully automatically, a simultaneous control of brightness and color temperature can be achieved.

Increase in well-being thanks to perfect light conditions

Dynamic color temperatures create a pleasant room atmosphere and contribute to the well-being of people. Designed to promote this goal, the Human Centric Lighting (HCL) concept for interiors describes the use of the correct color temperature and illumination at the right time. Following this approach, the new actuator supports with the function “tunable white” an infinitely variable color temperature control.

This allows variations from warm to cold white light and easy implementation of daylight simulations to imitate natural daylight color changes. With tunable white and up to seven adjustable dimming curves, the new actuator can control lamps to adapt them to any room situation. An adapted color temperature promotes better performance for room users and ensures perfect viewing and working conditions – particularly essential in educational as well as clinical establishments and offices.

The new Siemens KNX switch and dim actuator has a complete application program for Engineering Tool Software (ETS) and is used wherever complex DALI lighting control systems need to be operated in an energy-efficient manner with low installation costs. The integrated display offers an intuitive way to determine the current status of the DALI line and respond to error codes even faster than with other competing devices.
