Urbanization, lack of natural resources and climate change represent major challenges for cities in the coming years. The cities of the world consume two-thirds of the energy produced, 60% of total water consumption and produce 70% of greenhouse gas warming.
In addition, cities continue to grow. More than 50% of the world’s population already live in urban areas. In 2050 about 70% of the world population will live in urban areas. That is why the fight against climate change and environmental pollution focuses on cities. The environmentally sustainable urban development is therefore the most important challenge for the future.
The basic prerequisite for sustainable cities are sustainable buildings. Today, buildings account for more than 40% of global energy consumption and 21% of greenhouse gas emissions greenhouse gases in the world. To ensure the sustainability of buildings, we need solutions that take into account equally the building, electrification, infrastructure and energy production. A KNX city shows how these solutions can be integrated into sustainable cities and how they can interact with the building.
KNX Greece will run a workshop entitled ‘KNX City Workshop’ to see how the KNX standard, the largest open protocol building automation in the world can ‘build’ a sustainable smart city.
