KNX Association chose the Microsoft SQL Server as the database engine for ETS4 because this meant that they did not need to develop a proprietary database engine from scratch. There are, however, some consequences of this approach, such as not being able to just move ETS4 database files, not even on the same computer! In such cases, you need to create a backup first and then restore this backup file from the new location.

Backups
It is a common recommendation to make backups of any data regularly, so this certainly also counts for ETS databases (projects). Moreover, it is also worth making backup restore checks for ETS4 regularly, because even the ETS4 backup files could get corrupted somehow (due to no fault of its own).
In other words, as any professional working with data within an IT environment, you need a systematic approach to backing up in order to prevent loss of data and hence loss of time and money. It might take a little extra time, but it is your insurance and could save you a big headache in the long-run. As they say, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
