B.E.G. sensors offer climate protection, efficiency, cost reduction, comfort, safety and flexibility for hotels

Discover the advantages of building automation for your hotel

More than just a place to stay – hotels are places where comfort, wellness and enjoyment are lived. Guests are allowed to enjoy luxury without restriction, but for investors and hoteliers, energy management and profitability are becoming an increasing challenge. Thus – despite increasing quality demands – highly efficient, flexible solutions are more in demand than ever in times of climate change and energy cost increases.

Today’s hotels are therefore equipped with building system technology that automatically optimises the cost and energy balance, security, comfort and flexibility, and relieves hoteliers and hotel staff in their operations. After decades of proven electrical installations, sensors, actuators and software are moving into buildings. Systems technology makes the use of a building many times more flexible. Control can take place digitally; changes can be implemented quickly and cost-effectively with less effort.

In a hotel where sensors perceive their environment like sensory organs, energy can be saved in areas where no use takes place. Weather data and existing lighting conditions can be incorporated to prevent energy waste. The savings mean an increase in comfort for all building users – whether guests or staff – because functionalities such as air conditioning, lighting or security run automatically.

B.E.G. sensors are known for their high quality and ease of use.

The B.E.G. wall sensor WS-VOC-HVAC-KNX not only controls temperature and humidity. It ensures fresh, oxygen-rich air in all rooms. In doing so, it measures the proportion of volatile organic components – VOC for short. These include adhesives and chemicals that are emitted from walls, floors and furniture and can lead to sick building syndrome – i.e., nausea and a feeling of illness. Human exhalations such as sweat, sulphurous compounds, essential oils, perfume, hairspray and deodorant are also VOCs. If there are too many of these VOCs in a room, it is automatically ventilated. This way, you always maintain a good indoor climate in your hotel rooms.

An effective area of application for sensors is lighting. This can be controlled depending on the presence of people and taking daylight into account: Lighting is provided when people are in the rooms and only to the necessary extent in an energy-efficient manner. When there is sufficient daylight, the lighting can be dimmed or switched off. In hotel corridors and underground car parks, for example, this can save a lot of energy. Motion-dependent lighting increases comfort in dressing rooms, closets and bathrooms.

Hygienic and particularly energy-saving lighting of sanitary facilities is implemented via the Indoor 180-KNX-DX. It also reacts to movements and then switches the light. In addition, it has a noise detection system. This means that it also detects a presence in individual cubicles. During periods of non-use, luminaires remain switched off.

Not to be forgotten: Lighting is a popular element in hotels, above all, to create atmospheric rooms. By playing with light intensity and light colour, atmospheres can be successfully changed according to the occasion. With networked, integrated systems such as DALI or KNX, it is possible to reproduce lighting scenarios once created by lighting designers or decorators quickly and many times at the push of a button. These are just a few examples of modern building operation. Discover the possibilities for your hotel. B.E.G. will be happy to provide advice for your specific project.
