Hello [NAME]
At last the sunshine has arrived and it has turned out to be quite a scorcher in Europe, so all of those KNX-controlled air-conditioning and shading systems will be earning their keep right now. Indeed this would be the perfect time to explore integrated energy/heat management systems with your clients. I'm thinking of automatic shading to reduce glare and heat, combined with cool LED lighting, garden sprinklers that communicate with weather stations, and floors that sink and transform into swimming pools (well, everyone can dream).
If you are not involved with KNX yet, but are considering it, the KNX Association is holding a 'Learn the Basics' webinar held over two days on July 29 and 30. Details of this and other training opportunities can be found under the 'events and training' category on our news page.
I also want to congratulate the winners of the WorldSkills Competition held in Leipzig at the beginning of July. The Electrical Installation category involved using a KNX module to control a simulated office environment, and the five winners came from Japan, Switzerland, Korea, Sweden and the UK.
Every month we bring you a fresh offering of articles. This month we have a case study by Alec Eades of AEG Electrical Services, who tells us about a fabulous family home in Henley, UK that is locally and remotely controllable through KNX. Carlo Natale of Domotica Più makes the case for powerline in hybrid KNX system designs, while Piero Russo & Oleksiy Danilin of BSRIA give an overview of the market for KNX in Belgium as part of their European Smart Home Market Study research series.
Our regular contributor Geny Caloisi enlightens us about KNX in the UK, where prestigious projects, such as The Crystal, MediaCityUK and ITV offices employ KNX. Our interview this month is with Stephan Erasmus of Futurasmus, who has some great advice for the industry and is looking beyond Europe to expand his KNX wholesale business, and finally, our very own Dr KNX deals with the question of language selection in ETS4.
Don’t forget to send us a picture of you, wherever you may be, with the KNX logo and a smile for our 'Where is KNX' gallery.
